Trek Domane SLR 6 Disc Road Bike Gen 4 2024 Pairing electronic shifting with an adaptable, hi-tech frame, the Trek Domane SLR 6 Disc Road Bike Gen 4 is real-world fast across a variety of terrain. The key to its versatility is the Gen 4 frame. Made from 800 Series OCLV Carbon it is light and stiff where necessary with improved Kammtail tubing for better aerodynamics, yet Trek’s IsoSpeed concept provides cossetting comfort on rough roads and lanes. When coupled with the Bontrager Pro IsoCore handlebar, it greatly reduces fatigue and discomfort caused by poor surfaces, making the bike quicker for longer. The bike’s geometry also reflects its performance-comfort aims, with figures that are ideal for long endurance style rides without blunting its speed on shorter loops. Clearance for tyres up to 38mm offers the opportunity to fit some wide rubber and venture off the tarmac onto traffic-free trails whilst the integrated mudguard mounts make it a viable year-round option. The frame also includes Trek’s internal down tube storage that is hidden beneath the bottle cage, and with space for a few tools and an inner tube, it keeps the weight low down and out of jersey pockets. The latest in Shimano’s line-up to get the Di2 moniker, the 105 R7100 groupset offers semi-wireless electronic shifting and powerful hydraulic disc brakes. Only the lightest of touches on the lever is needed to switch sprockets, front or rear, as the electric motors seamlessly move the chain, even when powering uphill and the front derailleur automatically trims itself in relation to the rear derailleur’s position, so chain rub is eliminated. In keeping with the Domane’s broad remit, the drivetrain has a wide range of gears, with a 50/34 chainset and 11-34 cassette, so even very steep gradients or high mountains can be tamed. The system can be connected via Bluetooth to both GPS units and smartphones for a plethora of information and ride data along with the ability to customise certain shifting functions. Carbon wheels from Bontrager match the bike’s versatility, with 37mm deep rims that lower drag at speed but provide stability in crosswinds and are plenty light enough to launch attacks uphill. The rims and 32mm tyres are tubeless-ready so can be set up for more grip, greater comfort and fewer punctures very easily.
