Madone SLR 6 Gen 7 Disc Road Bike With much input from their highly successful WorldTour team, Trek’s Madone SLR 6 Gen 7 Disc Road Bike is a dream race machine. The 800 Series OCLV Carbon frame doesn’t just feature the usual Kamm tail or slim tubes of most aero bikes, there is also an interrupted seat tube with a very large hole in it. This allows air that has been channelled from the front of the bike via the sculpted head tube to pass through the seatpost and into the low-pressure area behind the rider, thus reducing drag. The upper, floating part of the seat tube plays an important role in the bike’s comfort, as it has a degree of flex in it that effectively absorbs much of the vibrations from poor road surfaces, helping the rider stave off fatigue and keep the power on for longer. Trek likens it to the previous IsoSpeed version of the bike in its firmest setting. Shimano’s latest 105 groupset now benefits from the Di2 and 12-speed technology of Ultegra and Dura-Ace, giving fantastic shifting at just a touch of a button. The 11-34 wide-range cassette ensures plenty of options when the road tilts upwards whilst the Servo Wave hydraulic disc brakes guarantee control and confidence on the way back down. A quick bike deserves fast wheels, so the Aeolus Pro 51 OCLV Carbon wheelset from Bontrager is the perfect addition. Deep enough to make a big difference, but not so unruly that they get knocked around by the wind or weigh the bike down on the climbs, they are tubeless-ready and come fitted with 25c Bontrager R3 Hard-Case Lite tyres.
